The following candidates are running for a seat on the Piedmont Electric board of directors. Once elected, these individuals will serve a three year term helping govern the cooperative. A brief biography is included below for each candidate. Voting instructions can be found here.
STEPHEN C. LONG (DISTRICT 4) Steve has been a member of Piedmont Electric for 39 years and has served on the Board of Directors for the past 10 years. He has earned Credentialed Cooperative Director, Board Leadership Certificate, and Director Gold Credential from NRECA. Steve resides with his wife, Jane, in the Prospect Hill community of Caswell County. He is a property manager and part-time farmer. Steve is committed to the advancement of Piedmont Electric Co-op’s mission, principles, and purpose, and finds great privilege in serving his fellow member-owners, and looks forward for the chance to continue.
ELIZABETH (BETH) TOWNSEND (DISTRICT 6) Beth has served on the PEMC Board for three years and during that time she completed the Credentialed Cooperative Director Program which focuses on operations, co-op financials and strategic planning. As a member since 2005, Beth is eager to continue in her role working with those she respects for their “members come first” mentality. As clean energy grows as a critical conversation, Beth will persist in educating herself and share findings with the full board. In addition, Beth will ensure that other areas of growth, aimed at benefiting members, remain at the forefront of board conversations.
RICHAL VANHOOK (DISTRICT 9) Richal has been a member of Piedmont Electric for 37 years, serving on the board for 17 years and as Board Treasurer for 9 years. He is a Credentialed Cooperative Director and has earned the Board Leadership Certificate and Director Gold Credential from NRECA. Richal resides in the Hurdle Mills Community of Orange County with his wife Savannah. He is retired from Orange County Government, he also serves on the following boards: Farm Bureau Insurance, Agricultural Preservation, Cattleman Association, Farm Service Agency and Chair of Trustee Board at Lattisville Grove Baptist Church.
THOMAS S. WARREN, JR. (DISTRICT 9) Thomas was born and raised in Roxboro, NC. He graduated from Person High School in 1974, then attended Wake Technical Institute and obtained an AS in Civil Engineering Technology. He went to work for the City of Roxboro in 1988 and later obtained his BA in Business Administration. In 2001 he was promoted to Assistant City Manager, in charge of the City’s Public Services Department. Thomas retired from the City in February 2022 after 34 years of service. Thomas has been married to Susan Gray for 35 years, and they live on her family’s farm in Orange County.
