The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook and a Wind Advisory for our service territory which is in effect from Noon today through 4am Thursday.
Winds with sustained southerly speeds between 20 and 25 mph with gu…sts frequently between 30 and 40 mph with occasional peak gusts up to 45 mph are forecasted. The strong winds may blow down trees and power lines. Loose and unsecured outdoor objects will be tossed around by winds of these magnitudes. Strong winds will make handling of vehicles especially high profile vehicles difficult. If you must travel be sure to use caution.
In addition to the Wind Advisory, scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected this afternoon generally between Noon and 5pm. A cold front and accompanying line of heavy downpours will then cross Central North Carolina this evening between 7pm and 2am. Locally enhanced wind gusts which may approach or exceed severe limits of 58 mph can be expected with these showers. In addition to the threat of winds isolated tornados are possible.
