High winds with speeds exceeding 50 mph caused small outages in Orange County during Wednesday night and Thursday morning. Piedmont Electric experienced an outage last night in Carrboro resulting from high winds impacting equipment at our Hwy 54 Carrboro Substation. More than 800 members in Carrboro were affected by this outage that began @ 10:41pm Wednesday night. Restoration to 400 members occurred within 80 minutes with the remaining members’ service returning by 1:50am Thursday morning.
We are anticipating that small outages may continue to occur today as the result of the continuation of strong winds impacting the distribution lines.
PEMC’s Right of Way program helped us in minimizing the outages that we could have experienced during this high wind storm. Piedmont Electric wants to thank all of our affected members for their patience during this storm.
