Community Solar
Taking advantage of solar power is a great way to help off set your carbon footprint. However, we recognize that not everyone is able to install solar panels on their home. By participating in our community solar program, you’ll pay a monthly subscription fee of $2.50 per panel per month, with a maximum subscription of 25 panels. Then you’ll receive a credit for the amount of energy produced by those panels on your next bill.
While you won’t typically make money with this program, it gives you easy access to solar energy, without the long-term or financial commitment of installing solar panels on your own home. Find out more about how to sign up by visiting pemc.coop/communitysolar.
Home Solar
If you do have solar panels installed on your property, you may qualify for our net metering program. This enables members with solar systems that generate no more than 25 kW to subtract the electricity generated at their homes from what they use.
When you sign up for net metering, any energy that your system generates that is not being used is fed back into the electric grid. Then when your system isn’t producing enough electricity, you can draw from the grid. At the end of the month, if you have produced any excess energy, you’ll see a separate line item on your bill for the amount of the credit.

Knowledge Is (NC Green)Power
Are you looking for opportunities to give back in ways that support renewable energy? Piedmont Electric Cooperative is a proud partner of NC GreenPower, a nonprofit committed to increasing knowledge and acceptance of clean energy technologies throughout the state.
As a member of our co-op, you can sign up to contribute monthly to the organization on your utility bill. For every $4 donated, NC GreenPower supplies 125 kWh of renewable energy to the North Carolina electric grid. That money also goes toward supporting their Solar+ Schools program which gives grants to North Carolina schools for solar installations.
