Piedmont Electric offers Basketball Camp Scholarships

HILLSBOROUGH, N.C., January 29, 2010—Piedmont Electric Membership Corporation is offering sixth, seventh and eighth graders who want to hone their basketball skills a chance to be selected for a Touchstone Energy scholarship to attend either the Kellie Harper Women’s Basketball Camp or Roy Williams’ Carolina Basketball Camp this summer.

One winner will be selected for each camp to represent Piedmont Electric for an all-expense paid week at the appropriate camp.

To enter the contest, students must submit a 300-word essay on one of the following topics:

Why do you want to attend the Kellie Harper OR Roy Williams Basketball Camp?
What does the sport of basketball mean to you?
Please type your essay on a separate sheet of paper from your application form.

The deadline for applications is March 31, 2010. They should be mailed to: Piedmont EMC, Basketball Camp Scholarships, Attn. Rachel Hawkins, P.O. Drawer 1179, Hillsborough, NC 27278. Winners will be announced no later than May 1.

Applicants will be judged on their academics, extracurricular activities and an essay that must be submitted with the application.

Parents/guardians must complete the consent portion of the application. Parents are responsible for transportation to and from the camps.

Please do not use a pencil for any part of the application.

The Kellie Harper Women’s Basketball Camp is tentatively set for June 20-23 in Raleigh.

The Roy Williams’ Carolina Basketball Camp is set for June 19-23 in Chapel Hill.

Piedmont Electric, a Touchstone Energy Cooperative based in Hillsborough, is a nonprofit electric utility serving 31,000 consumers in parts of Alamance, Caswell, Durham, Granville, Orange and Person counties.
