PEMC Reports Ice Storm Outage Restoration @ 98%

Piedmont Electric crews with assistance from 235 outside line workers is reporting restoration of more than 20,500 outages associated with Friday’s severe ice storm.  At the height of the outage, more than 21,050 Piedmont Electric customers were without power.  We have made great progress, with more than 98% restoration to report.  As we complete the larger outages we will begin working on groups and individual outages. At this time we have replaced more than 75 poles, 125 cross arms and more than 75 transformers that were damaged during the ice storm.  We want to thank you for your patience and we want to assure those remaining without power that we will continue to work around the clock to get your power restored. To learn more about the process we follow in outage restoration please see “The Steps to Restoring Power”. Of utmost importance is the safety of our customers and employees.  Please stay clear of any remaining downed power lines and if you have an emergency generator do not connect it directly to your house wiring without the assistance of a licensed electrician.  The power from the generator could flow back up into the power lines and create a hazard for the crews and the public.
