Space heater safety tips

  • Keep space heaters at least 10 feet away from flammable objects like curtains and bedspreads or possible wet areas like kitchens and bathrooms.
  • Keep space heaters away from children.
  • Always check for frayed cords.
  • Make sure space heaters are turned off when you are not in the room.

Avoid emergency heat

Avoid emergency heat

If you have an electric heat pump DO NOT use the emergency heat option to heat your home. Emergency heat should only be used if your primary heating system is broken. This method will keep your home warm until you call an HVAC professional to repair the issue, but it is expensive.

Emergency heat will significantly raise your electricity use and power bill. Keep your thermostat setting to “Heat” this winter.
