Roxboro, NC (July 17, 2017) – Roxboro Fire Department received a $360,000 zero-interest loan from Piedmont Electric Membership Corporation to help pay for a new 3,000-gallon pumper tanker fire truck.
“Having a new pumper tanker that is reliable and properly equipped will enhance our department’s ability to protect the individuals and property in Roxboro,” Chief Torain explained.
Both of Roxboro Fire Department’s current pumper tankers are experiencing failure because of old age. Their 1998 American Lafrance Pumper’s parts are no longer manufactured and their 2000 International Pumper is past warranty and suffers from electrical issues. This new truck will replace one of these aging engines.
The funds were loaned by Piedmont Electric as part of the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Economic Development Loan and Grant (REDLG) program. The program provides zero-interest funds to local electric cooperatives who in turn lend the money to local entities for projects that support rural areas.

Working with fire departments provides us the unique opportunity to help make our community a safer place to live.”
In the past three years, Piedmont Electric has loaned more than $5.6 million within Person, Durham, Alamance, Caswell and Orange counties for fire trucks, fire stations, ambulances and schools. As the funds are repaid they are re-loaned to assist with future projects in communities served by Piedmont Electric.
