Storm Update: Crews Making Progress, Outages Down to 2,900

Piedmont Electric crews continue to make headway in our winter storm restoration efforts with outage numbers down to 2,900 from a peak of 6,900.  Restoring power quickly and safety to members is our highest priority, and crews will continue to work until power is restored. Crews from South River EMC headquartered in Dunn and contract crews from Surry-Yadkin EMC headquartered in Dobson are assisting with restoration efforts.  Crews have made significant progress since this morning.
Please refer to the link below which explains our steps to restoring power.  A Winter Storm Warning is still in effect for much of central NC, while a Winter Weather Advisory remains active in portions of western NC. Roadways will remain hazardous in areas through the evening, overnight, and into Friday morning. Please be extra careful if you must travel today.  Also use extreme caution throughout today as trees will continue to fall resulting in unsafe conditions including the possibility of additional outages.  There are reports of downed power lines in surrounding areas so please use extreme caution today. Always assume a downed power line is energized and stay away. Do not attempt to touch or move a downed power line. Call Piedmont Electric at 800.222.3107 or your local emergency services immediately to report all downed power lines. If you have not reported your Piedmont EMC outage please call our Outage Reporting Number at 800.449.2667.
