Tornado Watch & Hazardous Weather Outlook for our Service Territory April 25

The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a Tornado Watch through 9:00PM and a Hazardous Weather Outlook affecting our service territories in central North Carolina.  We will be carefully monitoring this weather system and are prepared for potential power outages.  Because Piedmont Electric is located in the communities we serve, restoration crews are always on-site and can begin restoration work quickly.  Piedmont Electric members are asked to call our Outage Reporting number at 800.449.2667 to report an outage or call 800.222.3107 to talk with a Member Services Representative.  Please exercise caution around downed power lines.  To report a downed power line call us at 800.222.3107.

FOR ALAMANCE AND NORTHWESTERN ORANGE COUNTIES…AT 1:39 PM EDT…A TRAINED WEATHER SPOTTER REPORTED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM PRODUCING QUARTER SIZE HAIL…AND POSSIBLY DAMAGING WINDS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH. THIS STORM WAS LOCATED NEAR MEBANE…OR NEAR GRAHAM…MOVING NORTHEAST AT 40 MPH.

A SPOTTER REPORTED HAIL TO THE SIZE OF QUARTERS IN GRAHAM AT 1:38 PM.   LOCATIONS IMPACTED INCLUDE…BURLINGTON…GRAHAM…MEBANE…ELON COLLEGE…GIBSONVILLE…HAW RIVER…SWEPSONVILLE…ALAMANCE…ALTAMAHAW-OSSIPEE…CARR…ALTAMAHAW…GLEN RAVEN…PLEASANT GROVE…LAKE CAMMACK PARK & MARINA…UNION RIDGE…SCHLEY…LAKE BURLINGTON AND LAKE MACKINTOSH MARINA.

PEOPLE OUTSIDE SHOULD MOVE TO A SHELTER…PREFERABLY INSIDE A STRONG BUILDING AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS.
