Utility tax for farmers
Save 7 percent each month on each eligible account!
If you are a qualifying farmer, you may be exempt from the utility tax charged on your monthly bill. The tax is a 7 percent charge like a sales tax and is listed as “NC STATE TAX” on your bill. Piedmont Electric is required to collect this money and send it to the state.
However, if you are a qualifying farmer, you can keep this money each and every month! Farmers must be approved by the North Carolina Department of Revenue and receive a qualifying farmer exemption certificate number to be exempt from the tax. A qualifying farmer includes a dairy operator, a poultry farmer, an egg producer, a livestock farmer, a farmer of crops, a farmer of an aquatic species and a person who boards horses.
If you have a copy of your exemption number you can submit it to us using the form below, email it to info@pemc.coop, drop it by one of our offices or mail it to us!
