Winter Storm Warning Issued For Our Area

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for our region from 4PM this afternoon to 9AM to Tuesday.  Snow and sleet are predicted to accumulate around an inch or so in the greater Triangle and 3-5 inches over the Northwest Piedmont.  Snow and sleet accumulation will be followed by freezing rain accrual ranging anywhere from ¼ to ½ inch.
Freezing rain accrual on trees and power lines may result in scattered to numerous power outages, particularly along and south of I-40, where freezing rain will be the predominant type.  Winds expected from the Northeast at 5-10MPH and temperatures will hover in the lower to mid-20s.
Travel will become very hazardous or impossible; only travel in an emergency.  If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, blankets and water in your vehicle.
Please listen to NOAA Weather radio or go to weather.gov for more information to follow weather in our area.  Piedmont Electric is on storm alert and will be providing ongoing storm-related communications, weather monitoring, and preparing personnel for this weather event.
