Winter Storm Watch In Effect for Central NC 2/25-2/26

There is a Winter Storm Watch in effect for our area 6PM this evening to Noon Thursday.  Moderate to occasionally heavy snow will overspread Central NC this evening and continue overnight; 4-8 inches of snow accumulation is expected.  A glaze of light freezing rain or freezing drizzle is also expected early Thursday morning before ending around midday Thursday.
There will be hazardous travel conditions associated with snow and ice on area roads through Noon today then again with snow tonight through early Thursday.  Only travel in an emergency—if you must travel—keep an extra flashlight, blanket, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
Please listen to NOAA Weather radio or go to weather.gov for more information to follow weather in our area.  Piedmont Electric is on alert and will be providing ongoing communications and weather monitoring.  If a power outage occurs, Piedmont Electric customers should report the outage to 800.449.2667.  You can also check our online Outage Map Viewer which provides detailed outage information, including location.  If you would like to understand how power is restored after a major outage, check out our “Steps to Restoring” graphic here.
