Winter Weather Update for Thursday, January 30th

Piedmont Electric is on standby and ready to restore power as quickly as possible if outages should occur as a result of this winter weather. We are carefully monitoring this winter weather and are prepared for possible power outages. Because Piedmont Electric is located in the communities we serve, restoration crews are always on-site and can begin restoration work quickly. * TEMPERATURES…WILL BOTTOM OUT BETWEEN 0 AND 10 DEGREES AT SUNRISE. TEMPERATURES WILL RISE INTO THE 20S BY LATE MORNING AND INTO THE MID 30S THIS AFTERNOON.

* MAIN IMPACT…LINGERING SNOW AND ICE ON AREA ROADS WILL CAUSE DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS…ESPECIALLY ON SECONDARY ROADS. SOME MAJOR ROUTES IMPACTED INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO… INTERSTATE 95…INTERSTATE 40…INTERSTATE 85…HIGHWAY 64… HIGHWAY 70…HIGHWAY 42…HIGHWAY 401…HIGHWAY 13…AND HIGHWAY 24.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR BLACK ICE IS ISSUED WHEN HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS PERSIST DUE TO SNOW AND ICE ON AREA ROADS.EVEN ROADS THAT APPEAR CLEAR MAY BE COVERED BY A THIN LAYER OF ICE. TRAVEL THIS MORNING IS HIGHLY DISCOURAGED AND SHOULD BE AVOIDED IF POSSIBLE. IF YOU MUST VENTURE OUT…DRIVE SLOW…LEAVE PLENTY OF FOLLOWING DISTANCE…AND EXERCISE ADDITIONAL CAUTION WHEN BRAKING OR ACCELERATING…ESPECIALLY AT ACCIDENT PRONE LOCATIONS SUCH AS INTERSECTIONS…CURVES AND OFFRAMPS.
