Winter Weather Update for Wednesday, January 29th

Piedmont Electric is on standby and ready to restore power as quickly as possible if outages should occur as a result of this winter weather. We are carefully monitoring this winter weather and are prepared for possible power outages. Because Piedmont Electric is located in the communities we serve, restoration crews are always on-site and can begin restoration work quickly. WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR BLACK ICE AND SNOW COVERED ROADS NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON EST THURSDAY…

* TEMPERATURES WILL SLOWLY RECOVER TO NEAR FREEZING THIS AFTERNOON THEN QUICKLY FALL THROUGH THE 20S THIS EVENING. LOW TEMPERATURES TONIGHT WILL VARY FROM 5 ABOVE WHERE THE SNOWPACK IS THICKEST TO THE 10 TO 15 ABOVE ELSEWHERE. TEMPERATURES WILL WARM ABOVE FREEZING AROUND MID DAY THURSDAY.

* MAIN IMPACT…ICE AND OR SNOW-COVERED…ESPECIALLY SECONDARY ROADWAYS…WILL CAUSE HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS TODAY. ANY MELTING THAT OCCURS THIS AFTERNOON WILL QUICKLY FREEZE AROUND SUNSET RESULTING IN WIDESPREAD BLACK ICE.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW COVERED ROADS AND BLACK ICE MEANS THAT ROAD CONDITIONS ARE HAZARDOUS AND TRAVEL SHOULD NOT BE ATTEMPTED. IF YOU MUST VENTURE ON AREA ROADWAYS…EXPECT VERY SLIPPERY CONDITIONS. SOME ROADS THAT APPEAR CLEAR MAY BE COVERED BY A THIN LAYER OF ICE.
