Cooler mornings are here and heating season is right behind them. October is the perfect month to make a few smart moves before winter energy use kicks in, and Piedmont Electric has programs and rebates that can help at every step.
Mark your calendar: winter hours begin Oct. 16
If you are on our time-of-day rate, your on-peak hours shift to our winter peaking hours from Oct. 16 through April 15. The hours to avoid during this time are from 6-10 a.m. on weekday mornings. Run the dishwasher while you sleep, program your thermostat to warm the house ahead of the morning peak and charge your EV overnight. Off-peak energy costs just 6¢ per kWh compared to 40¢ on-peak, and weekends and designated holidays are always off-peak. Not on the rate yet? Button up your home with weatherization rebates
Fall is prime time for sealing up the house. Members can earn a $100 rebate for attic insulation rated R-38 or higher and another $100 for duct sealing, both installed by a licensed contractor. If your heating system is due for replacement, you may qualify for up to $600 on a new electric heat pump, and ENERGY STAR(R)-certified heat pump water heaters qualify for a $100 rebate too.

State Rebates Available
Energy Saver North Carolina offers rebates for energy efficiency and electrification upgrades like insulation, efficient heating systems and appliances. Visit energysavernc.org to learn more or apply.
Try Our New Demand Rate
If you can make changes to your energy use during peak times, then our new demand rate may be right for you. Spreading out when you use major appliances or delaying their use until off-peak times has helped members save already this year. Members who sign up for the rate can try the program risk-free for one year. Try it for one year and if you don’t save, then let us know and we will switch you back to our residential rate and credit you the difference.
