When severe weather hits, your safety and access to reliable electricity are our top priorities. Piedmont Electric works around the clock to maintain system reliability and restore power as quickly and safely as possible during outages.
HOW WE RESTORE POWER
Restoring electricity is a complex process, and safety is always the first step. Here’s a quick look at how we bring power back online:
- Repair Transmission Lines: These high-voltage lines deliver power from the generation source to substations. If they’re damaged, nothing downstream can receive electricity.
- Restore Substations: Once transmission lines are back, we assess and energize substations to send power into local distribution systems.
- Repair Main Distribution Lines: These lines serve large portions of our community, so fixing them helps restore power to many members at once.
- Fix Tap Lines and Individual Services: These lines serve smaller areas or individual homes and are restored last to ensure maximum efficiency. Learn more about the process at pemc.coop/steps-to-restoring-power.
