Our Brighter Future Initiative
Piedmont Electric has long been a supporter of renewable energy and we’re always looking for new ways to make improvements as a cooperative. In 2020, we officially announced our pledge to reduce carbon dioxide emissions to ensure we’re doing our part to protect the environment while serving our communities with affordable and reliable power.
We’re proud to announce that we remain on track to reach our goal of reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 50 percent by 2030 and having net zero carbon emissions by 2050. We continue to work with our power providers to meet these goals and commit to looking for new ways to be a more sustainable organization in the future as well.

Other Ways Piedmont Electric Supports Renewable Energy
Beyond our carbon emission goals, we’re also proponents of solar power. We built two community solar farms in Roxboro and Caswell to make renewable energy more accessible to our members.
Other measures we’ve taken include installing electric vehicle (EV) charging stations throughout our service area to better serve our EV-driving members. In addition to the EV charging station located at our Hillsborough office, we’ve installed fast-charging stations in Carrboro and Mebane in the last year. We also incentivize EV use by offering our members a $50 rebate for letting us know about your electric or hybrid vehicle and a competitive electric vehicle time-of-day rate that helps members who charge at night save money.
