Space heater savings and safety

With winter weather blowing in, many of our members are looking for energy-efficient ways to keep warm. One of our favorite ways to stay cozy during the winter is to use a space heater, but if you don’t know how to use it, you could end up spending more money or even putting yourself in danger.

Check out our space heater tips to keep you safe and warm this season.

Saving money

Space heaters are a great alternative to keep you warm, but if you turn on a space heater without turning down your heating system, you’ll be using two different methods to heat the same space which will cost you more money!

Instead, turn down your main heat and bring the space heater into the room you want to keep warm. When you’re ready to move to another room, bring the space heater with you so you can stay comfortable. Try to only use your main heating system when you need to keep multiple rooms comfortable.

Staying safe

While space heaters are convenient, they can be dangerous if not used properly. Keep the following safety tips in mind the next time you use your space heater:

  • Always make sure to turn your space heater off when you are not in the room.
  • Never use a space heater with frayed or damaged cords.
  • Keep your space heater at least 10 feet away from flammable objects.
  • Never leave your space heater unattended, especially if you have children or pets in your home.
