Powering a Sustainable Future

At Piedmont Electric Cooperative, we’ve always been committed to providing reliable, affordable power to our members. But we also recognize the importance of reducing our carbon footprint and supporting a cleaner energy for our future. Five years ago, we officially pledged to cut carbon dioxide emissions because we believe in protecting the environment while continuing to serve our communities with dependable electricity.

We’re proud to report that we remain on track to reduce carbon dioxide emissions 50% by 2030 and reach net-zero emissions by 2050. We continue to work closely with our power providers to meet these ambitious goals, while keeping reliability and cost-effectiveness at the forefront.

Sustainability in Action

Our commitment to sustainability isn’t just about long-term goals—we’re making a difference today by:

  • Offering time-of-day rates, which help members shift energy use to off-peak hours, reducing demand on the grid and keeping costs lower.
  • Providing rebates and loans to help members save energy and money.
  • Upgrading our systems, reducing the need for on-site service visits, which lowers fuel usage and emissions.
  • Supporting electric vehicle (EV) adoption, with rebates and special rates for charging during off-peak times. We’re also integrating electric and hybrid vehicles into our own fleet to further reduce emissions.
  • Encouraging prepay billing, which helps members manage their energy use more efficiently while supporting conservation efforts.

We believe that sustainability and reliability go hand in hand. By making smart energy choices, investing in cleaner technologies and offering programs that benefit our members, we’re creating a stronger, more sustainable future—without sacrificing the quality of service you rely on.
