Roxboro Fire Department Unveils State-of-the-Art Fire Truck Thanks to a Zero-Interest Loan from Piedmont Electric

The Roxboro Fire Department showcases their latest addition, a state-of-the-art Pierce PUC fire truck, equipped with cutting-edge technology to enhance firefighting capabilities and community safety.

ROXBORO, NC (October 2023) – The Roxboro Fire Department recently unveiled its latest firefighting asset, a cutting-edge Pierce PUC fire truck, funded through a $549,990.00 zero-interest loan from Piedmont Electric Cooperative. This marks the third loan granted to the Roxboro Fire Department under Piedmont Electric’s Community Loan Program.

Piedmont Electric Cooperative, in association with the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Economic Development Loan and Grant program (REDLG), provides loans to rural communities. The USDA provides zero-interest loans funds to the cooperative, which Piedmont Electric then lends to local businesses and organizations at zero-interest.

This state-of-the-art fire truck is the first of its kind in Person County, built by Pierce, a single-source company renowned for its exceptional service and quality. The truck features a Pierce PUC on a rescue body, a revolutionary pump system that allows pumping in neutral, a distinctive Paccar MX 13 motor for superior torque and Pierce’s Tac 4 steering for unparalleled maneuverability.

“The acquisition of this new fire engine is a significant leap forward for our department. Its advanced features, including the unique pump system and powerful motor, make it an invaluable asset for navigating challenging terrain,” said Chief Torain of the Roxboro Fire Department.

The decision to choose a Pierce fire truck was motivated by the department’s need for a reliable vehicle to replace an aging engine, which has been requiring increased repairs. The truck’s design is particularly well-suited for the district it serves, characterized by tight neighborhoods and uphill terrain, especially towards the southern regions.

Piedmont Electric’s continued support through the Rural Economic Development Loan and Grant (REDLG) program has played a crucial role in the Roxboro Fire Department’s ability to enhance its firefighting capabilities. This latest loan underscores Piedmont Electric’s commitment to fostering safety and supporting community initiatives.

“We are honored to partner with the Roxboro Fire Department once again. Our ongoing collaboration with local entities through the REDLG program reflects our dedication to community well-being. This new fire engine will undoubtedly contribute to the safety and security of the residents in Roxboro and surrounding areas,” commented Steve Hamlin, President and CEO of Piedmont Electric.

As with previous loans, the funds provided by Piedmont Electric will be repaid and reinvested in future projects within the communities served by the cooperative. To date, Piedmont Electric has invested over $19 million into the communities they serve, courtesy of funding from REDLG. The Roxboro Fire Department expresses its gratitude to Piedmont Electric for their steadfast support, enabling the department to continue its mission of safeguarding lives and property in Roxboro and beyond.
