Weather Update as of 1/22/2016 at 5:00pm
Throughout the morning hours, we mainly saw snow and sleet accumulate across our service territory. Tonight, sleet and freezing rain will continue across nearly all of central NC, which means a greater potential for significant ice accumulations (up to a 1/2″) from freezing rain. In addition, gusty winds 30-35 mph are expected which could potentially lead to scattered outages due to falling trees and branches.
Driving conditions will remain hazardous through Sunday morning. Temperatures will be nearly steady in the upper 20’s and lower 30’s through Saturday morning and only warm into the middle 30’s on Saturday afternoon; little melting is expected Saturday. Any melting that does occur will quickly re-freeze Saturday evening. Sunday will be sunny and warmer with the temperatures passing the freezing mark mid-morning.
Be safe. Please be safe and do not travel during these poor weather conditions. Should you lose power, always use extreme caution when using generators and alternate heating and cooking sources. These devices need to be properly ventilated and generators should placed far enough way form your home to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
Piedmont EMC is on call 24/7 and will be ready to respond if any power outages occur.
