Winter Storm Warning Issued for Jan. 30-Feb. 1

Sunday, Feb. 1

A majority of our service territory received several inches of snow, and thankfully, no ice or major wind gusts from yesterday’s storm. With a lot of the roads under several inches of snow, our offices and drive-thru windows will be closed on Monday, Feb. 2. Staff is available by phone at 800.222.3107 if you have questions or need assistance. If outages occur, Piedmont Electric crews are prepared to respond as safely and quickly as conditions allow. The safety of our members and employees will always be our top priority.

NWS warns of black ice in areas into Monday morning.

Saturday, Jan. 31

We continue to monitor conditions and are ready to respond if outages occur. The winter storm warning remains in effect through Sunday, Feb. 1 at 7 a.m. Snowfall accumulations of 4 to 8 inches are expected across much of central North Carolina during the next 24 hours. Models indicate a 90% chance of at least one inch of snow across much of our area.

Friday, Jan. 30

A Winter Storm Warning is still in effect for our area tonight through Sunday, with heavy snow expected and totals generally between 3–7 inches, with some areas possibly seeing 10+ inches. Roads, especially bridges and overpasses, could become slick and hazardous, and travel may be difficult at times through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service. Please stay weather aware, limit travel if possible and prepare for changing conditions.

If outages occur, Piedmont Electric crews are ready to respond safely and as quickly as conditions allow. The safety of our members and employees remains our top priority. Stay tuned to our social channels and website for updates.

Thursday, Jan. 29

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for our region, with the U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) forecasting 5–8 inches of snow, strong winds (gusts up to 25–35 mph) and dangerous cold from Friday afternoon through Sunday. Heavy snow and wind may create hazardous travel conditions and could lead to possible power outages. Wind chills could drop as low as -4°F late Saturday into Sunday. If outages occur, Piedmont Electric crews are prepared to respond as safely and quickly as conditions allow. The safety of our members and employees will always be our top priority. Please stay weather aware and continue monitoring local forecasts for updates. We’ll share any co-op updates here on Facebook and on our website.
