Hillsborough, June 2024 – At Piedmont Electric, our commitment to community goes beyond providing reliable electricity; we are dedicated to making a meaningful impact in the lives of our members. This commitment is exemplified through our Helping Hand Foundation, which recently awarded $2,000 college scholarships to seven outstanding high school students in recognition of their academic excellence and community involvement. “As an electric cooperative, we strive to do more than keep the lights on,” says Steve Hamlin, president and general manager of Piedmont Electric. “We want to make a difference in the lives of those we serve.”
2024 College Scholarship Recipients:
These scholarship recipients come from various parts of our six-county service area, reflecting our broad support for local youth. Our Helping Hand Foundation, which places a high priority on education, funds these scholarships. In addition to the $2,000 scholarships, we also provide six $1,500 scholarships to our members attending Alamance Community College, Durham Technical Community College, and Piedmont Community College. Two students from each college receive these awards at the start of the fall semester.
Since 1997, Piedmont Electric has been dedicated to supporting local students through our college scholarship program. Graduating high school seniors whose parents, grandparents, or guardians are Piedmont Electric members are eligible to apply. The application for the graduating class of 2024 begins online on September 1. Our scholarship program and educational initiatives are just one of the many ways Piedmont Electric invests in the future of our community, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to the development and success of our local youth.
