Board of director candidates – 2019
The following candidates are running for a seat on the Piedmont Electric board of directors. Once elected, these individuals will serve a three year term helping govern the cooperative. A brief biography is included below for each candidate. Voting instructions can be found on the postcard at the center of this magazine.
STEPHEN C. LONG (DISTRICT 4) Steve has been a member of Piedmont EMC for 36 years and has served on the Board of Directors for 7 years. He has a Board Leadership Certificate. Steve resides with his wife, Jane, and daughters, Sarah and Jessica, in the Prospect Hill Community of Caswell County. He is a property manager and part-time farmer. Steve is a member of Bethel United Methodist Church where he serves in various capacities, including Administrative Board Chairman. He is also a past Board Member of the Prospect Hill Volunteer Fire Department.
TALMADGE W. YANCEY (DISTRICT 6) Talmadge has been a member of Piedmont EMC for 46 years and has served on the Board of Directors for 28 years. He is a Certified Credentialed Director. Talmadge resides in the Holloway Township of Person County. Talmadge is retired from construction work and is a part-time farmer. He attends Olive Branch Baptist Church.
ELIZABETH (BETH) TOWNSEND (DISTRICT 6) Beth immersed herself in Person County when she moved here in 2004 to be closer to family. A 13 year employee of Piedmont Community College, she has been a volunteer/board member for: Chamber of Commerce, Person County’s Futures Committee, Healthy Personians, Directors’ Round Table, State Employees Credit Union, Animal Protection Society and Roxboro Community School. Beth and her daughter are active members of Roxboro Presbyterian Church. With a passion for education and community, Beth is a firm believer in the mission and guiding principles of PEMC and welcomes the opportunity to serve her district.
SAM T. WOODS (DISTRICT 9) Sam, a member of Piedmont EMC for 50 years, has served on the PEMC Board for 21 years, is a Certified Credentialed Director and earned the Board Leadership Certificate from NRECA. Sam resides in the Schley Community, is a retired dairy farmer and now grows hay. A member of Little River Presbyterian Church, he served as an Elder and is currently a choir member. Sam, a Board Member for Cedar Grove FD, served as Treasurer for 20 years. He is a member of the OCIM Finance Committee, delivers Meals-On-Wheels, is a member of the Schley American Legion and Schley Grange and served in the US Army.
