Nest smart thermostat owners can save money, lower their monthly bill and receive a $50 rebate and monthly bill credits of $2.50 from June through September by joining our smart thermostat savings program. On certain days when demand on the grid is high, your co-op will make automatic changes to the setpoint of your enrolled thermostat(s).
During this control event, Piedmont Electric will adjust your thermostat through your in-home Wi-Fi a couple degrees. If necessary, you can change your thermostat back at any time by using your smart thermostat’s wall unit or smart phone app. You can opt out of events at any time, but opting out of more than 5 events in a year may affect your reward(s).
Eligibility
To be eligible for Piedmont Electric rebates and credits, you must register your Nest smart thermostat online first and then enroll in our Smart Thermostat Savings Program. You must have Wi-Fi to participate in this program. You must stay on the program for a minimum of 1 year or the rebate may be removed.

Frequently Asked Questions
When an event is called, the setpoint on your enrolled thermostat(s) is automatically adjusted by 3 degrees; events last 2-4 hours. You can opt out of an event by changing the setpoint on your thermostat.
When could an event occur, and how often?
- Our control events go from June-September.
- Events last for 2-4 hours, typically 3-4 times a month.
- Events usually occur between 1 and 8 pm in the summer.
- You are likely to experience more events when outside temperatures are more extreme. This creates the greatest positive change in your community’s energy use.
- You always have control of your thermostat. You can opt out of events at any time, but opting out of more than 5 events in a year may affect your rewards.
- Maximum of 26 events per season, minimum of 1 event per month. Events occur no more than 3 days in a row.
- New members receive a $50.00 rebate upon enrolling in the program
- Receive monthly bill credits of $2.50 from June-September
