More Ways to Save on Energy-Efficient Home Improvements

More Ways to Save on Energy- Efficient Home Improvements

If you’re planning home improvements this year, there are more ways than ever to make energy-efficient upgrades more affordable. North Carolina’s HOMES and HEAR programs are designed to help eligible households lower the cost of qualifying energy improvements. When paired with Piedmont Electric’s rebate offerings, these programs can significantly reduce upfront expenses while improving comfort and efficiency at home.

What Are the HOMES and HEAR Programs?

North Carolina’s home energy rebates include two separate programs that support energy-efficient upgrades:

  • HOMES (Homeowners Managing Efficiency Savings) focuses on whole-home energy improvements. Rebates are based on how much energy a project is expected to save, with larger incentives available for greater efficiency gains. Projects include insulation, air sealing, and upgrading heating and cooling systems.
  • HEAR (Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates) helps offset the cost of specific electric upgrades, such as heat pumps, electric water heaters and electrical panel upgrades.

Both programs are designed to help reduce energy use, improve home comfort and lower long-term energy costs. Eligibility, rebate amounts and qualifying upgrades vary, so planning ahead is key. Visit pemc.coop/nc-rebates to learn more.

Pair State Programs with Co-op Rebates

In addition to state-funded programs, your co-op offers rebates on many of the same types of energy-efficient upgrades, including:

  • Smart thermostats
  • Attic air insulation and duct sealing
  • Heat pumps and other qualifying electric technologies
  • Electric vehicle chargers

  • Research eligibility requirements for the HOMES and HEAR programs
  • Keep receipts and documentation for all upgrades
  • Contact Piedmont Electric to confirm current rebate availability

Planning ahead helps ensure upgrades qualify for available incentives and prevents missed savings opportunities.
