This holiday season, the Piedmont Electric Helping Hand Foundation continued its mission of supporting the communities we serve by helping local families prepare for a meaningful Thanksgiving. The foundation partnered with the Hillsborough Church of God, located beside the Hillsborough office, to provide 150 turkeys for the annual Thanksgiving food pantry giveaway.
With many households experiencing increased financial strain because of rising food costs and changes in SNAP benefits, the need for food assistance has grown. The turkey giveaway offered families relief during the holiday season and helped ensure they could gather around a traditional Thanksgiving meal.
“Volunteering in the recent food drive was a humbling
experience,” said Landon Hux, an engineering technician for Piedmont Electric. “It showed me how impactful simple acts of kindness are and how important it is to help others in our community. It was very nice to brighten others’ day while also sharing some good times and laughs with my co-workers and other volunteers.”
Volunteers helped organize the food and pass it out to a steady line of vehicles during the giveaway. Piedmont Electric staff members were honored to support the effort and help make a difference for our neighbors in the community.
“At Thanksgiving, we believe every family deserves the chance to gather around a nourishing meal and share in the spirit of gratitude,” said Keith Epstein, president of the Helping Hand Foundation board of directors. “Supporting food drives in our community right before the holiday allows our foundation to help neighbors facing financial challenges, ensuring no one is left out of this special tradition. By coming together as a community, we can make a real difference and bring hope to those who need it most.”
The foundation made donations to food banks in each of the six counties served by Piedmont Electric Cooperative. The Helping Hand Foundation remains committed to uplifting our neighbors and supporting programs that make a meaningful impact across the communities we serve.
