About Federal Tax Credits

The IRS offers federal tax credits for certain qualified efficiency upgrades and purchases, which helps you deduct from the total amount of taxes you pay in a given year. Before you start planning your next home update, take a look at the list below to see if one of your projects may qualify for a federal tax credit. These projects may be eligible for tax credits based on the year they are placed in service. Some restrictions and annual caps may apply; tax credit amounts may decrease from year to year. Be sure to consult your tax professional to determine how this could impact you. Also, remember to let Piedmont Electric know of any large home improvement plans before they begin as it may affect your service.

A/C and Water Heater Load Management

Receive a $25 credit when you join our air conditioning or water heater load management program plus receive monthly bill credits. Load management is one of the easiest ways to save. We install load control switches on your equipment and then, when we forecast very hot afternoons (the times of highest energy demand, usually between 1-6 p.m. in the summer and 6-10 a.m. in the winter), our switches cycle your air conditioner and turn off your electric water heater to reduce usage. This helps all of our members save money, and pays you too!

Low-interest Home Upgrade Loans

Low interest rate loans are available to eligible Piedmont Electric Cooperative members to finance the purchase and installation of energy efficient home upgrades. Approved members may borrow up to $15,000 for seven (7) years at five percent (5%) interest. This program is only available for existing homes served by Piedmont Electric. New construction does not qualify for the program.
